How we handle the information you share with us — in plain language, and in full.
Last updated: July 2026
In short
- We only ask for what helps us help you — mostly through the Get Help form.
- What you share on that form is confidential — read by VRA staff and volunteers coordinating your support, never sold, never used for marketing.
- The Get Help form is not medical care and not a crisis service. In a crisis, call 988, press 1, or 911.
- Donations run through Zeffy and volunteering through VolunteerNH — separate companies with their own privacy practices.
- We don't run analytics or advertising trackers on this site, and we don't set tracking cookies.
- Questions or requests about your information: email [email protected].
This site is not a crisis service. If you or a fellow veteran is in crisis, please don't wait on a form or an email — call the Veterans Crisis Line at 988, press 1, text 838255, or chat online, any time. In a medical emergency, call 911.
Who we are
Veterans Resource Alliance is a New Hampshire-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 39-2275540) serving veterans, service members, and their families across New England. This policy covers vrahelps.org. If you have questions about anything here, email us at [email protected].
Information we collect through Get Help
The Get Help form is the main way we collect personal information on this site. Most fields are optional — you choose what to share, and you can leave anything blank you'd rather not answer. Depending on what you tell us, that can include:
- Contact details — your name, phone, email, and (optionally) your home address and preferred way to be reached.
- Service information — whether you're a veteran (or completing this on behalf of one), your branch of service, whether you have a DD‑214 or proof of service, and your VA disability rating, if you choose to share it.
- Household information — how many people live with you and who they are, if you share it.
- Your situation, in your own words.
- The type of assistance you're looking for, how urgent it is, and what led to it.
- A rough financial snapshot, if you choose to share it — approximate income and expenses, whether you're behind on bills, and by how much.
- Immediate concerns you flag, like no heat or risk of eviction.
- Anything else you'd like us to know.
- Optional file uploads — a DD‑214 or other proof of service, and supporting documents like repair estimates or past-due bills.
- Your answer to whether we have permission to share your situation with trusted partners to coordinate support.
This is sensitive information, including military service details and financial information, and we treat it that way. The form also has a hidden field that real visitors never see or fill in — it exists only to catch automated spam, not to collect anything about you.
What happens after you submit the Get Help form
Submitting the form sends your information to our team, where it's reviewed by VRA staff and vetted volunteers who help coordinate support — not by an outside company, and never for marketing. We use it to understand your situation and figure out how best to help, and we keep a record of your request so we can follow up and maintain honest case records.
We keep this information only for as long as it's useful for helping you and for keeping accurate records of the support we've provided. We don't have a fixed public retention schedule to publish yet; email [email protected] if you have a question about a specific request.
Documents you upload (DD‑214 & supporting documents)
A DD‑214 or other proof of service, and any supporting documents you attach, are sensitive on their own — they can include your military service record and personal financial details. We store them securely and limit access to the people directly working on your request. Uploading a document is optional; if you'd rather send it later, or need help obtaining a copy, you can say so on the form and we'll work with you.
When we share your information
We don't sell your information, and we don't share it for advertising. The Get Help form asks your permission before we coordinate on your behalf: if you say yes, we may share your situation — without sensitive personal details — with trusted partner organizations so they can help. If you say no, we contact you first before involving anyone else.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect someone's safety in an emergency.
Donations — handled by Zeffy
When you donate, you're taken to Zeffy, an independent donation platform. Zeffy processes your payment and handles the personal and payment information involved in that transaction under its own privacy policy — we don't restate or guarantee their practices here. You can read Zeffy's privacy policy directly at support.zeffy.com.
Volunteering — handled by VolunteerNH / Galaxy Digital
Signing up to volunteer happens on VolunteerNH, which runs on the Galaxy Digital platform — a separate company from VRA. Any account or information you provide there is covered by their own privacy policy, at galaxydigital.com.
Our events calendar
The events listed on our Events page are pulled automatically from our public Google Calendar. Viewing that page doesn't require or collect any personal information from you.
Cookies, analytics & tracking
We don't run analytics or advertising tools on this site, and we don't set tracking cookies. There's no cookie banner here because there's nothing to opt in or out of. Like most websites, our hosting provider may keep standard technical logs (such as IP address and browser type) to keep the site secure and running — that's normal web infrastructure, not advertising, and we don't use it to track you across other sites.
Children
This site isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18 without a parent or guardian's involvement. If you believe a minor has shared information with us without appropriate consent, contact [email protected] and we'll address it.
Your choices
You can ask what information we have about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by emailing [email protected]. As a small nonprofit, we handle these requests personally rather than through an automated system — we'll do our best to respond promptly and honestly, including telling you if there's a good reason (like an open case) we need to hold onto something a little longer.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle information, we'll update this page and the date below. We don't have a formal version history to publish at this time.
