Caring for a veteran at home is a full-time job on top of everything else in your life — and it's easy to run yourself down doing it. These resources are for spouses, adult children, parents, and friends who are the quiet backbone behind a veteran's care: real help with breaks, benefits, training, and someone to talk to who understands.

Where to start
These are publicly available resources anyone can use — VRA isn't affiliated with any of them, and listing them here isn't an endorsement, just a starting point. If you'd rather not sort through it alone, reach out and we'll do it with you.
A free phone line staffed by VA social workers who will listen, explain what caregiver help is available, and connect you to a real person at your local VA who can help — no matter how big or small your question is.
If you're the main caregiver for a veteran who was seriously hurt or disabled by their service, this VA program can pay you a monthly stipend, give you health insurance, training, and at least 30 days a year of paid respite care so you can rest.
If your veteran doesn't qualify for the bigger caregiver program above, this is the wider-net option — open to almost any caregiver helping a veteran enrolled in VA health care, with coaching, classes, peer support, and referrals to respite care. No formal application; you just contact your local VA Caregiver Support Coordinator.
New Hampshire's own caregiver support network — helps any family caregiver in NH (including those caring for a veteran) find respite care, counseling, support groups, and practical help like transportation or home modifications.
A nonprofit built specifically for military and veteran caregivers. You can join their caregiver community for peer support, get help applying for benefits, access emergency financial assistance for a crisis, and get one-on-one help figuring out what you need next.
Free support for the people around a wounded or injured veteran — spouses, parents, friends, or anyone who helps out. Includes mental health support, help navigating VA caregiver benefits, and (for caregivers of the most severely injured) an Independence Program with real respite care and peer support.
