Where to start
These are publicly available resources that anyone can use — Veterans Resource Alliance is not affiliated with any of them. If you'd rather not sort through this on your own, reach out and we'll do it with you.
If you're a veteran without stable housing, or worried you might lose your housing soon, you can call or chat online any time, day or night, and a trained counselor will help connect you to the nearest VA and local resources. You do not need to be signed up for VA health care to call.
HUD-VASH combines a housing voucher (which pays part of your rent) with a VA caseworker who helps you find an apartment and stay housed, plus connects you to health care. It's specifically for veterans who are currently homeless.
New Hampshire's state housing agency (formerly called NH Housing Finance Authority) sets aside a special group of housing vouchers just for homeless veterans, screened and case-managed together with the VA.
If a service-connected disability makes it hard to work, this VA program can pay for job training, college, or help you start your own business — plus counseling to figure out what career fits you. It also helps with independent living support if working isn't the immediate goal.
New Hampshire's state job-services office has staff dedicated to veterans — including veterans helping veterans — for resume help, interview coaching, and connecting you to job openings, some of which give veterans first crack for 24 hours before anyone else sees them.
Hire Heroes USA gives you a free, personal career coach who helps rewrite your resume, practice interviews, and connect you with employers who want to hire veterans.
The GI Bill can pay for college, a trade school, or job training, and can also help with housing costs while you're in school. There are a few versions depending on when and how long you served.
